FINAL SCORES AS WINTER LEAGUES CONCLUDE AT PARADISE LANES
This was Fun Week as the leagues all finished up for the winter season. Teams gathered for pot luck meals and drinks from Jimmys Paradise Café, handed out league awards and bowled some fun games, including 3-6-9, 9-pin no-tap and 8-pin no-tap.
In Monday Merchants, the Wells Fargo Bank team of Jared and Melissa Posenjak, Patrick Smith, Trish Smith and captain Dave Morton, won the league and the right to bowl against the winner of Wednesdays Merchant League for the coveted Merchant Cup. As the winning team, Wells Fargo will also receive a $140 sponsors check in addition to the individual prize money won by the bowlers. Individual season high scores went to Trish Smith who shot 232-532 for high scratch series, and Kathy Dent with 196 for high game. On the Mens side, Eddie Williams had a 726 series, the second highest in Paradise Lanes history, while Dave Morton had high game of 278. That came with a 725 series, just one pin shy of Eddie Williams, and Daves series is third highest in Paradise Lanes history.
In Tuesday Mixed, the team race in this league was a nail-biter, with Rookies Rule (a team of new bowlers from US Customs) leading the way by one game over Spare Time going into this week. As the dust settled, Spare Time, comprised of Mike and Karen Hogan and Jim and Mary Guard, managed to win five in the positioning round to take first place honors. Not surprisingly, Karen and Mike Hogan took high individual honors in this league. Karen had season high game of 199, and Mike had high season series with a 652. Christine Pascoe had high series for the women with 506 and Rich Foley had high season game of 206 for the men.
In Wednesday Merchants, Strike Force, with Mike Deegan, April and John Mason, Ed Grimes and Mike Best, won the league. They have earned the right to bowl against Wells Fargo Bank for the Merchant Cup. That contest will be held Monday, May 8 at 6:30, so be sure to come down and watch!! High individual series honors went to Kim Burns with 555 and Scott Olinger, 715. High game honors went to Liz Collins with 243 and Mike Best with 277.
In Thursday Mixed, Hot Rollers with Mike & Karen Hogan, Sam and Chris DeFilipps, won the title of the Winter Mixed Foursome, the oldest and longest running league at Paradise Lanes. High Individual season honors went to Mike Hogan with a 289 game and Nate Smith with a 722 series, fourth highest in Paradise Lanes history. Trish Smith shot a 564 series and Kim Zerby a 218 game for high womens honors in this league.
Down the Alley: There was an absolute dogfight for high season average on both the mens and womens side. For the women, it came down to a matter of decimals with Janice Clarke posting a 158.98 over Trish Smiths 158.13. Mary Guard was third with 156.85 while Kris Zerby was a close fourth at 156.23. Four men managed to post 200 averages this season, another first in the short history of Paradise Lanes. Scott Olinger bested Mike Best for high average with a 208.59 in Thursday Mixed to Mikes 206.83 in Wednesday Merchants. Dave Morton had a 204 average in Monday Merchants while Nate Smith posted 200 in Thursday Mixed.
The Paradise Lanes team of Jared Posenjak, Nate Smith, Patrick Smith, Scott Olinger and Mike Hogan still holds a slim lead in the 69th Washington State Championships. Others get to shoot for their score through May 21st.

3-6-9 is a game where strikes are automatically given in the third, sixth and ninth frames. 9-pin No-Tap is where a nine count or better counts as a strike, and similarly, 8-pin No-Tap is where a count of eight or better constitutes a strike.

Four of five winter leagues have now been concluded at Paradise Lanes.
In Monday Merchants, Wells Fargo Bank edged all competitors. High weekly games were by Window Craft with a 1062 handicap game and Gem Welding with a 3074 handicap series. Jared Posenjak, part of the Paradise Lanes team that moved into first place in the Washington State Championships this past Saturday, shot a personal best 264 game on his way to a 617 series. Ed Williams shot 235 and John Mason 214. Chris DeFilipps had 184-479 for Ladies High Series of the week, and Leslie Byron shot 177-473.
In Tuesday Mixed, Spare Time shot a 2234 series and Vets Pets had high game with 590. Patrick Smith, who substituted for Spare Time, shot a personal best 659 series that included a 232 game. Regular Mike Hogan shot a new season high (substitutes are not eligible for season honors) 251 game and 652 series. For the ladies, Pat Ball shot a 198 and Trish Smith had 490.
In Wednesday Merchants, Island Welding had a whopping 2555 series and ICB shot high game of 890. Joel Ball had high handicap series of 679 that included a 227 scratch game while Scott Olinger shot 224-618. For the ladies, Liz Collins shot a huge 243 game, one of the highest womens games in Paradise Lanes history, and Trish Smith shot a 200 game on her way to a 554 series.
In Thursday Mixed, Just For Fun shot high handicap series of 2571 while Altered Egos shot high scratch game of 755. Patrick Smith had another personal best (two in the same week) with a new high game of 265. Scott Olinger shot a 629 scratch series and Paul Iovan had a 234 scratch game. For the ladies, Gloria Ball shot a 185 game on her way to a 509 high series while Mary Sundstrom shot a 199 scratch game.
In Thursday Bantam League (ages 6-12), the league was concluded with a big party, pizza, balloons, trophies, and some Rock N Glow bowling. We still have a Bantam League on Tuesdays for those that would like to continue bowling through the spring season. Paradise Lanes extends a special thanks to Kings Market for sponsoring the Thursday Bantam League, and to our own Trish Smith, who chaperoned the Bantams for their 15 weeks of bowling and made sure the 32 charges had lots of fun. In Friday Happy Hour Trio, the Team called Wild Turkey, led by Sean Carillo who works at West Marine, cackled its way into first and has an insurmountable lead going into the last week of this league. Nancy Fusare had a 189 scratch game on her way to a huge 703 handicap series and Karen Hogan shot 491 for the scratch title. Joel Ball rolled a 561 scratch series and Eric Fusare had a 214 game.
Down the Alley: On Monday, we were close to a 300 game yet again. Jared Posenjak had the first nine (of a needed 12) strikes in his 265 game.
Partial results from the Washington State event are in, and Paradise Lanes has some top placements halfway through the tournament. Olis Bowlers, a team comprised of Scott Olinger, Nate Smith, Patrick Smith, Jared Posenjak and Mike Hogan, currently holds a 104-pin first place lead in the 69th Annual Washington State Championships. The tournament runs another six weeks and other Paradise Lanes bowlers will be vying for that title this coming weekend. Winter leagues are coming to a close at Paradise Lanes and there remain two very hotly contested finishes. In Monday Merchants, Wells Fargo Bank again captured high honors with a 2423 series, and have clinched the win for this league. Gem Welding had high game with 824. Rich Steckler lit up the leader board with a 215-601, Rick Campbell of Carquest had 211 and Eddie Williams shot 207. Trish Smith shot a personal best of 232 on her way to high series of 532 and Leslie Byron shot 453.
In Tuesday Mixed, Spare Time, comprised of Mike and Karen Hogan and Jim and Mary Guard, shot a 2021 series and Vets Pets had high game with 615. The team race in this league is ever-so-close, with Rookies Rule (a team of new bowlers from US Customs) leading the way by one game over Spare Time. Trish Smith had high series with 515 and Christine Pascoe had high game with a 180. Mike Hogan shot 212 on his way to a 582 series.
In Wednesday Merchants, the heat is on with five teams within three games of the lead going into the final week of play. Besides the hotly contested Merchants Trophy that goes to the winner, the sponsor of the winning team in both Monday and Wednesday leagues receives $140 in cash winnings. Lighthouse Window has a half-game lead over Going Bowlistic at the moment. Strike Force, sitting three games back, had high game of 926 and Island Welding & Fabrication had a 2650 series. Scott Olinger had high series of 614, Joel Ball high game with 226, and John Mason turned in a 212. For the women, Chris DeFilipps shot a 497 series and Jan Smith had a 205 high game.
In Thursday Mixed, Hot Rollers have this league title all wrapped up, and to add emphasis, had high series and game for the week with 2259 and 788. Mike Hogan is ripping up the lanes for a second week in a row, shooting 269-200-226 for a personal best 695 series. Great shooting, Mike! Friday Harbors now-famous Nate Smith had a 257 on his way to second honors and a 653 series. Vying for Most Improved honors, Tim Dustrude had a 696 for high handicap series. For the women, Trish Smith topped her weeks earlier personal best with a 233 game and 549 series and Chris DeFilipps shot high game of 190.
In Thursday Bantam League (ages 6-12), high scores included Jackson Pieples 90, Max Haenel 86, Jake Lowe 83, Gemma Richards 73 and Sis Baker 66. Thanks to Kings Market for sponsoring our Bantam Leagues.

Down the Alley: It takes 12 strikes in a row for a 300 game. In his 269 effort on Thursday, Mike Hogan threw 10.

The Thursday Bantam League wraps up its season so everyone can play in Little League! There is a party with trophy presentations and Rock N Glow Bowling starting at 3:00 pm; parents are invited.
Two weeks ago, Nate Smith shot a 722 scratch series. That is the fourth highest in the history of Paradise Lanes. Scott Olinger has the high with a 728, Eddie Williams is second at 726 and Dave Morton is third with 725.
Come down on Wednesday and watch the final night of the hotly contested Merchant League. Five teams are within three games of first place.

It has been a fantastic week for scores in the leagues at Paradise Lanes. In Monday Merchants, Wells Fargo Bank again led the stagecoach charge with a 2801 scratch series, followed close behind by Gem Welding with high game of 810. Scott Olinger was still on a streak, shooting a 252 on his way to a 646 scratch series. Jerry Mullis had hi hdcp series with 638, Richie Peterson 247 hi hdcp game and Cecil Dent 232 hdcp game. For the ladies, Leslie Byron had one of her highest series with a 687 handicap series to take top honors; Pam Coffey had hi scratch at 521. Bette Story had high hdcp game with 227 and Trish hi scratch at 186.
In Tuesday Mixed, The Flamethrowers, comprised of Ron Garner, Liz DeLong, Bill McLaughlin and Jack Casey, shot hi hdcp series with 2456. Spare Time had hi scratch with 2093. Scott Olinger had a 258 enroute to a 699 scratch series and Mike Hogan was second with a 232 game enroute to a 611 series. Trish Smith shot 194 on her way to hi scratch series of 548; Karen Hogan had a scratch 174 game and Sandi Jackson shot high handicap game of 228.
In Wednesday Merchants, Strike Force re-appeared for the first time in months at the top of the leaderboard with a 2475 scratch effort and Going Bowlistic took high game honors with 911. Louise (Lou) St. Luise shot her best-ever with a 209 scratch game on her way to a 508 series. Great bowling, Lou! Gloria Ball was a close second with a 201 game enroute to a 486 series and Tiffany McCutcheon shot high individual game: 175. For the men, Joel Ball shot a huge 695 hdcp series, Mike Best had 646 for high scratch honors; Walt Cooter 227 and Tom Burns 226 ran 1-2 for high scratch game honors.
Thursdays have been a notoriously high-scoring night and this week was no exception. In Thursday Mixed, Friday Harbors famous Nate Smith shot his best-ever and what a whopper it was! He had scratch games of 196, 247 and 279 for a 722 series to take season high honors. Both the 279 and 722 are personal bests for Nate congratulations! Not to be outgunned, one pair of lanes away, Mike Hogan was quietly spinning his magic. He had games of 202, 225 and 256 for a stunning 683 series. Mike, you might recall, bowled a 289 game at the end of last season. One other mens score of note for Thursday: Tim Dustrude cleared his average by 66 pins in shooting high handicap game of 267. For the ladies, Mary Sundstrom shot a whopping 204 scratch game while Janice Clarke was completely over the top with a 200 on her way to high scratch series of 528. Nice bowling! Team honors went to Altered Egos with 2268 and Hot Rollers with 2129 series.
In our Bantam leagues (ages 6-12) high scores included Henry Arnold 83 and Sammantha Hopkins 83 on Tuesday, and Jimmy Chaffee 112, Jackson Pieples 90, Max Haenel 86 and Jake Lowe 83 for Thursday. Thanks to Kings Market for sponsoring our Bantam Leagues.
Down the Alley: Paradise Lanes is still waiting for its first bowler to string all 12 for a 300 game. In his 256 effort on Thursday, Mike Hogan started with the first 8 strikes, making our 300 game award sponsors very nervous again! The two high scorers this week, Nate Smith and Mike Hogan, are bowling doubles together in the upcoming Washington State tournament in Seattle next week. Paradise Lanes is fielding two five-man teams, seven doubles and 14 bowlers in singles for the Washington State Mens Championships over the next four weeks being held in Seattle. With his 722, Nate Smith has jumped back above the 200 mark in league average. You may recall, he started the season with an unprecedented six consecutive 600 series in Thursday league. The ladies race for season High Average is very close. Janice Clarke leads the field with 158.7, Trish Smith has 156.8 and Mary Guard 155.5. For the men, Scott Olinger leads with 208.6, followed by Mike Best at 206.7 and Dave Morton at 206.3.

In Monday Merchants, Rich Campbells Carquest had high handicap series of 3034 while ICC Trouble Makers, led by Michey Rath and John Hames, shot high handicap game of 1061. Trish Smith shot high game of 192 while Deb Hames had high handicap series of 624. As you will read below, Scott Olinger started tonight with his most impressive weekly showing yet, tonight posting a 653 scratch series while John Hames had high handicap game of 245.
In Tuesday Mixed, Vets Pets, composed of Rich Foley, Cliff Jeffries, Peter Jameson and Pat Ball, shot high handicap series with 2467, while Pin Pals, led by Cindy Gutierrez, took high handicap game with 843. For the women, Sandy Jackson had high handicap series with 640, while Cindy Mullis shot the high scratch game: 179. Scott Olinger had a big 686 series (with a 251 game tossed in), while Mike Hogan shot a 224 game scratch and Cliff Jeffries had 643 for high handicap series.
In Wednesday Merchants, ICB, with Paul Iovan, Kim Burns, Ken Walden, Ted Buganski and Doug Curnow, had high handicap series with 3025, and Going Bowlistic shot high handicap game of 1023. Paul Iovan had a 619 scratch series (712 handicap) and Walt Cooter took second honors with a 654 series. On the ladies side, Gina Sandwith shot a scratch 190 game, Cindy Mullis had high handicap game of 230, and Liz Collins shot high handicap series of 652.
In Thursday Mixed, Just for Fun had high handicap series of 2477 and Designers, comprised of Susan Ross, Tim Dustrude, Shannon Dean and Scott Olinger, shot high handicap game of 863. Still on his Streak of the Week was Scott Olinger, who posted 224-659 scratch. Mike Hogan had a 223 game and Sam DeFilipps a 216 scratch. Trish Smith had high series for the women with 496. High scratch games were offered by Mary Sundstrom 194, Janice Clarke 180 and Lou St. Luise 179 and high handicap game honors went to Shannon Dean with 239.

A raucous weekend was had over April Fools Day with Youth Dynamics groups from the mainland and several Yacht Clubs in attendance. He shot a 278 on his way to a scratch series of 701 (a 233/game average!). John Stephens had high handicap series of 644 and Mike Orr was second with 637.
In Tuesday Mixed, the team with No Life, composed of Mary Fowler, Sandi Jackson, Steve Jackson and Dave Shaw, shot high series with 2430, while Rookies Rule took high game with 818. For the women, Princess Christina shot a big handicap series with 662, while Liz DeLong posted a 243 high game. For the men, Dave Shaw had high handicap series with 663 and Jack Casey had high handicap game with 238.

On the ladies side, Gina Sandwith shot 209 on her way to a 528 series, Bette Story had high handicap series of 654, Susan Anderson shot high scratch game of 178 and Carol Jackson had high handicap game of 230.

In Tuesday Mixed, Spare Time had high scratch series honors with 2026 and Vets Pets had high game with 575. For the women, Trish Smith captured high scratch series honors with 467. Three big handicap series were turned in by the women with Princess Christina 630, Anne Gutierrez 637 and Elizabeth Delong 650. Nice shooting ladies!! For the men, Mike Hogan had high series with 599 and Cliff Jeffries shot a 201 game.
In Wednesday Merchants, ICB had high series with 2368, and Going Bowlistic had high game of 827. The men turned in some hot games with Friday Harbors almost famous Nate Smith 221, Tom Burns at 227, and Paul Iovar 234. Nate Smith went on to finish with a 630 series. On the ladies side, Lou St. Luise had a 175 game and Kim Burns a 478 series.
In Thursday Mixed, Altered Egos had high scratch series of 2303 and Hot Rollers (Christys Island Salon) shot high game of 699. Patrick Smith shot a 260 game, while Mike Hogan worked the magic with a 244 game on his way to a 688 series. For the women, Trish Smith had a big night

In Monday Merchants, Wells Fargo Bank had hi series with 2562; Hot Rollers hi game 863; Trish Smith had hi game with 183 while Leslie Byron topped the leader board with a 498 series. John Stephens made the leader board with 204 and Dave Morton rolled 241 on his way to hi series of 669.
In Tuesday Mixed, Spare Time took high series honors with 1912 while the team of customs officers called Rookies Rule took high game with 561, helped by team captain and league president Jim Specht, who shot 60 pins over his average! For the women, Kris Zerby turned in a huge game with 222, while Mary Guard captured hi series honors with 488. Bob Plughoft rolled in as a sub and shot 167 while Mike Hogan had hi series with 558.
In Wednesday Merchants, Lighthouse Window had hi series with 2535, and Islands Welding & Fabrication added to the party with an 863 game. As might be expected, Scott Olinger topped the leader board with a 223 game on his way to a 659 scratch series, high for the week, but honorable mention to Steve Williamson who shot 60 pins over his average. On the ladies side, more dramatically, Carol Jackson shot 84 pins over her average for high handicap honors, Liz Collins had a 168 and Kim Burns shot 191 on her way to a 475 series.
In Thursday Mixed, Several good individual efforts topped the boards on a night with tough lane conditions. Ruth Plughoft was highest-over-average for the women, and Pat Ball had a 168, helping The 4 Broads to a strong handicap game. Janice Clarke took hi game honors with 201. Mens games included Jon Zerby 199, Mike Hogan 202, Sam DeFilipps 203 and Scott Olinger 232 on his way to a 635 scratch series.

In Monday Merchants league, Wells Fargo Bank exchanged spots with Gem Welding for high series and game this week with 2580 and 834 respectively. Trish Smith had high womens series with 516 and high games were posted by Sherry Steckler 195 and Dana Bune 181. But the highlight was on Dave Morton, bowling for Wells Fargo Bank. He started with a 245 game, then had strikes in the first nine frames on his second game for a 267 game, and finished strongly with a 213 for a whopping 725 series!! Nice bowling Dave!! Separately, Eric Fusare rolled a 246 game and Ed Williams posted a very respectable 627 series (209 average).
In the Tuesday Mixed League, Spare Time took high series honors with 1926 and Vets Pets had a 593 game. Karen Hogan swept both high game and series, with a 199 and series of 494. On the mens side, Mike Hogan had a 197 game and Rich Foley reached the leader board with a 469 series. Mary Guard had a 213 game and 522 series, while Christine Pascoe rolled a 179 game.
In the Wednesday Merchants League, the yet-to-be-named-and-sponsored Team 4 had best series again with a 2380, and Lighthouse Window posted best game with 816. April Mason posted a 181 game, Gloria Ball a 189, and Trish Smith shot 209 on her way to high series with 508. Joel Ball had a 213 on his way to a 571 series, Nate Smith posted 232 and Sam deFilipps shot a scratch 234 game. Nice shooting!

High series went to Mary Sundstrom with 531, with Janice Clarke close behind at 517. Kris Zerby had 187 and Karen Hogan posted a 190 game. Friday Harbors Nate Smith is getting more famous. In the Tuesday Mixed League, G Force, comprised of the Gutierrez family, posted the high series of 1699, while Spare Time had best game at 742. Karen Hogan swept both high game and series, with a 199 and series of 494. On the mens side, Pat Smith had another good night with high series of 608, and Mike Best had single game honors with a 238.

April Mason swept the womens side with a high game of 179 on her way to a series score of 483. Scott Olinger posted the best series of the week with a 678 (226 average!), helped by a 254 game.

But this league is much more about having fun than being competitive, and bowlers spent much of the time naming their teams after various libations. The printable ones included Wild Turkey, Fuzzy Navels, Hawkaritas, and the Kamikaze Strikers. If you want to try your hand at bowling, we are looking for four more individuals for the Friday Happy Hour League beginners are welcome since this is more about fun than scoring; starts at 5:45 pm on Fridays and comes complete with a different drink special each week from Jimmys Paradise Café. In Monday Merchants league, Gem Welding took back high series honors from Wells Fargo with a 2481 series, but Wells Fargo answered with a 861 game. Dave Morton shot 579 while Pat Smith managed a 207 game, and Sherry Steckler shot 510 and Pam Coffey a 196 game.
Tuesday Mixed showed Vets Pets rolling a 567 game. Christine Pascoe shot 186 on her way to high series of 473 while Trish Smith shot a 170 game. Mike Hogan had 612 and Pat Smith 220.
The Wednesday Merchant league had Lighthouse Window topping the leader board again with high series of 2471 (who are those guys??) and Strike Force had high game of 808. Joel Ball shot 202 on his way to a 548 series, while the ladies ripped up the lanes: Bette Story shot a 177, Gloria Ball had a 488 series, and April Mason shot 199 on her way to high series of 489.
In Thursday Mixed, it was quite a night. Hot Rollers posted a 786 scratch game, almost averaging 200 as a team. Altered Egos had a 2026 series. For the women, Mary Sundstrom shot 180 on her way to a 484 series and Janice Clarke rolled a 467. Nate Smith deserves honorable mention for posting his fourth 600 series in this league in four weeks, shooting 604 and Pat Smith came in with his third 200 of the week, a nice 235 game. But all eyes were on lanes 7 and 8 where Mike Hogan was bowling. This is the same Mike Hogan who just posted a 256 game in this league the previous week. This time, he found the lanes to his liking, even with extensive noise from the hammering next door Paradise Lanes was in the middle of renovating its Games Arcade! Hogan had his line to the pocket
throwing ten out of a possible twelve strikes. Now he was onto his eleventh ball, with a 300 clearly in sight. Unflappable, he threw another ball heading straight for the pocket but after the explosion subsided, a stubborn 6-pin remained. Mike finished with a 289 game, second highest in the history of Paradise Lanes. He finished the night with a 658 series great bowling Mike!

In Monday Merchants league, third week honors went to Wells Fargo Bank with 2496. Gem Welding took top game honors with 828. Dave Morton had high mens series with 593 following up last weeks effort of 586. Jared Posenjak bowling for Wells Fargo had high game with 236. For the women, Karen Hogan shot 537 and April Mason had high game with 191.
Tuesday Mixed: No Life had high team game of 565 while Spare Time rolled in with high series of 1952. Individual highs included Mike Hogans 540 series and Jim Guard with a 212 game, Mary Guard 474 series and Sue Hoglund with a 180 game.
Wednesdays Senior League wrapped up their season and season high scores went to Sid Schneider 371 series and Gloria Ball 507 series.
The Wednesday Merchant league had Lighthouse Window repeat for top honors with high series of 2579 while The Kickers posted high game of 837. Nate Smith continued his consistent form with a 613 series, while PLs best shooter, Scott Olinger posted yet another substantial game effort with a 247. For the women, Susan Anderson had a great 514 series, while Kim Burns topped the honor board with a 190 individual game effort.
In Thursday Mixed, Nate Smith posted a third 600 series in as many weeks, shooting 608 and was joined by Scott Olinger with a 622 and Mike Hogan, who posted a whopping 256 on his way to high series honors of 627. Not to be overshadowed, Pat Smith posted two 200+ games of 215 and 216. For the women, Mary Sundstrom had high game of 208 on her way to a 461 series, Kris Zerby posted a 465 series, but both were outgunned for high series honors by Janice Clarke with a 480. That is some great bowling!
Paradise Lanes began its first-ever Bantam League on Thursday, for youngsters aged 6-12. It was an overwhelming success with over 30 participating. In a positioning round to determine teams, high games were posted by Hayden Mayer 93, Megan OBrian 93, Tyler Fox 94, Jake Low 94, Summer Fox 97, Katana Matthews 101, Michael Hoeller 103, Max Haenel 106 and Jimmy Chaffee 112. Due to the high demand, Paradise Lanes is planning to launch another junior league on Wednesdays for ages 13-16, and Tuesdays for ages 6-12 both leagues to start in three weeks. We want to thank Sherry for her service to Paradise Lanes this past year.
